Week 4- Research Question

 Research Question

I want to know how to use my photographs that I take from the backseat of the car when we travel for my son’s treatments across states as an artistic expression of our journey as well as a mindful and meditative exercise for memories sake. I want to explore this through the still photos and long exposures I use to create paintings created from these moving (motion and emotive) landscapes to capture our new horizons.

What do you see?  Torn Pieces or Waves This piece was initially called “Torn Pieces” but would soon take on the title “Waves.” This piece is a collage that began as a failure on both an artistic and personal level. The piece comprises multiple failed printed photographs of one of my landscape paintings on vellum paper, and multiple overexposed cyanotype paper that resulted from a light leak. The execution of the collage was fast and furious. I ripped the failed photos, which were supposed to be part of a weaving project, which helped me release my tensions and frustration with the project and my personal life. The ripping mimicked the sound of waves from a sound machine. The most cathartic act was placing the torn pieces on the canvas. Layering the pieces to show depth and a sense of deepness helped me deal with the frustration of my son’s health. Week 7- Inspirations and Influences on My Work

Reflective Journal What are discoveries, challenges, and insights at this point in the research?   I am good with research but I am still struggling with what medium(s) to use to communicate this process. It feel like there is this sense of before, during and after effects on my work and my son's journey with his health. I am not sure which one fits the time frame noted. I am not sure how many to create. Also, I had to do a LOT of centering, self criticism, and self reflection through this journey which led me to meditation and mindfulness.   What methods are you using consciously?   Narrative and Autoethnography are my chosen methods. I have some journals as well as paintings I created during this journey. But I feel more connected with the photographs. Like a documentation.
